Last month my friend Upul convinced me that waking up at 2AM to visit Bundala National Park would be good idea. Usually the one to suppress my sense of adventure in favour of precious sleep, I took him up on the offer and I’m glad I did. Along with his friends Maheash and Gayan, we left via the recently opened Southern Expressway – my first time on it. I’d heard stories about the highway being littered with roadkill, and being a general health hazard. I imagine letting our drivers loose on a good stretch of road could have dire consequences.

Fortunately our trip was event free. Seeing oncoming headlights piercing through 3AM fog on a near deserted highway was something reminiscent of an eerie horror movie, but very cool.  Being anything but an ornithologist, I’m merely guessing the names of these birds or recalling from memory, so please feel free to let me know the actual names if I get them wrong. Here are a few images from our trip:

Green Bee-Eater: I can finally join the ranks of the dozens of people with many many bee-eater shots :)

Peacock - scratching that itch.

Any idea what this industrious little fella is called?

Not sure what this is.

Painted Storks.

These yellow crabs were so comical, and so alien-like. I'm sure they were pointing at me, betting when the next wave would come and drench me.

There be Muggers afoot!

Lunch by the ocean.

Coming back along the "Dakshina Lanka Distributor" - apparently this is what it's also known as?

Anchela and Vithuran, visiting from Canada, wanted to do an e-session. I honestly could not think of a more happy, fun couple to be taking pictures of. Haggling with tri-shaw drivers, dodging trains and being accosted by drunk caretakers attempting to scam us are all in a day’s work. Special thanks to my friends Maheash & Upul that helped me no end during the shoot.  Here are some pictures from a long, but satisfying day of shooting.

Some recent work I did for the Poya Villa in Ahangama.

“The absolute beachfront, Poya Villa is blessed with one of the most stunning coastline views on the south west coast of Sri Lanka. The graceful simplicity of the villa boasts four fully air conditioned bedrooms, four en-suite bathrooms, and an openstyle living area all complemented by a mix of modern and traditional furnishings maintained by a professional staff.” – http://www.poyavilla.com/
